ABOUT
Djangology is a mobile app that explores the life of Django Reinhardt, his improvisational style, accompanying musicians, tragedies, and legacy. While Django is a well-known jazz guitarist, his life and considerable influence are difficult to trace through time. The objective was to show the user through playlists, videos, and audio files, how jazz music changed through Django’s unique guitar style.
The process began by looking at existing text, videos, and photographs of Django to determine how to accurately portray his influence. There is little documentation of Django outside of audio recordings. Taking this into consideration, I chose to broaden the scope of the project by including other recording artists that were related to Django, yet still showed how they were connected musically. Using time as an axis to explore Django’s life, I created an interactive model that allows the user to scroll through his life horizontally as his style took on many forms as jazz progressed. On the vertical axis, the user can dive deeper into each jazz period to explore how his developing style influenced the music world.
